Mini-Split vs. Central Air

Central air is still the right answer for most Salina-area homes. Mini-splits win in specific situations — usually when you already have working ducts you're extending, OR when you don't have ductwork at all.

Central AC wins when:

• Your home already has full ductwork.
• You want a single thermostat controlling the whole house.
• You have 3+ bedrooms all on the same floor.
• You want the cheapest per-ton install cost — central is roughly 60% of ductless cost per ton.

Ductless wins when:

• The home has NO ductwork (older ${CITY} bungalows, some rural properties).
• You want per-room control — each head is its own zone.
• The house has additions, finished basements, or attic conversions that never got proper duct runs.

The hybrid approach

For an older home where the main house has ducts but a finished attic or addition doesn't, we often install central for the main floor and a single-head mini-split for the tricky room. Best of both.
